Nativity trail

The church is now an exhibition space for the Miners’ Nativity. This is a joint project of the town of Annaberg-Buchholz, the Evangelical-Lutheran parish of Annaberg-Buchholz and some of the region’s wood carvers. The nativity brings together the deeply rooted tradition of woodcarving and a reminder of mining life. The Christmas story is relocated from Bethlehem to Annaberg, with the Holy Family of Joseph, the mountain carpenter, his wife Mary and the Christ Child as the focal point of the tableau. The large Christmas nativity scene is complemented by a further 33 characters depicting typical 19th-century town life.
